THINGS TO DO IN ANANDPUR SAHIB

Founded by the Sikh Guru, Tegh Bahadur, this city is one of the holiest places in the entire world for the Sikhism religion. The city is located in the foothills of the Shiwalik Mountain, near to the Sutlej River. So, naturally, incredible scenic beauty encloses the city walls, wrapping the ambiance with its spell-bounding beauty and luring attractiveness.

Coming to the religious point of view, Anandpur Sahib has one of the five Takhts of the Sikhism religion, the Keshgarh Sahib Gurudwara. In the year 1699, Guru Govind Singh founded the Khalsa Panth, a remarkable turning point in the history of Sikhism.

Due to the presence of such stark places of both natural and religious importance, flocks of tourists swarm within the city throughout the year, especially during the spring festival, the Hola Mohalla. Anandpur Sahib is both a pilgrim site and a tourist spot, because of some iconic natural and artificial structures distributed across the city.

KESGARH QILA

The Kesgarh Qila was constructed in 1699, under the jurisdiction of the tenth Sikh Guru, Guru Govind Singh. It has now become one of the five Takhts of the Sikhism and so you can actually assess the number of tourist heads visiting this iconic masterpiece. The structure of the entire place is quite difficult from the other five forts within Anandpur Sahib. Small domes make up the roof of the colossal structure, giving the architecture its unique look. The white colored marble adds to the serenity of the place.

VIRASAT-E-KHALSA

Considered to be the reserve of the Sikh history, Virasat-e-Khalsa is a museum preserving the treasures of Sikhism. It contains the artifacts since 500 years ago and perhaps that’s what makes the place so special. The structure is also incredible, divided into two parts across the ravine and are connected by the ceremonial bridge.

GOVIND SAGAR DAM

Located at a distance of around three hours, this place is one of the best gateways from Anandpur Sahib. Most of the tour and travel service providers don’t rule out this place usually from the list. This is a gravity dam in nature and is the world’s highest one. A lot of water activities can be done in this part, including swimming, surfing, kayaking, and even canoeing.

RUPNAGAR

Located at a distance of around one hour away, this is a small town located in Punjab. Its historical importance lies in the fact that it used to be a crucial part of the Indus Valley Civilization.

LOHGARH FORT

The fort was made so strong that when armies used to attack the city, they feared to attack this fort. This was made for the production of weapons and ammunition. The security was made so strong that it was considered to be the second-most strongest fort in the entire city. Later in the year 1980, a three-story, octagonal-shaped gurudwara was constructed.

JHAJJAR BACHOLI WILDLIFE SANCTUARY

Located 15km away from the city of Anandpur Sahib, this is under the protection of the Punjab Government. Though the sanctuary is small, many species of both flora and fauna can be found in the area. If you are a bird lover, then this place will be perfect to catch some rare sights of the flying birds over the Sutlej River. Blue Bull, Jungle Cat, Mongoose, Pangolin, and Sambar are a few animal species that you can see in this wildlife sanctuary.

BHAKRA NANGAL DAM

Constructed on the Sutlej River, it is one of the pioneer places to visit near Anandpur Sahib. It forms the Govind Sagar and offers an amazing view of the flowing water of this Punjabi river.
